People are often unreasonable and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.
If you are honest, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.
If you find happiness, people may be jealous. Be happy anyway.
The good you do today may be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
Give the world the best you have and it may never be enough. Give your best anyway.
For you see, in the end, it is between you and God. It was never between you and them anyway.

Families that still need adopted...

We have a total of 46  families, and  21  have been adopted. Here are the stories of the families who haven't...

Family #2
Due to an inability for my husband or myself to hold a full time job due to being full time college students at etsu, we live primarily on student loans.  This, of course, doesn't leave much after paying all the bills and tuition with it.  I work for work study but that is very limited hours and money there.  My husband works for his APS scholarship which is paid straight to tuition.  Because of my recent medical condition which has required a surgery and another major surgery is about to happen.  This limits my ability to work my work study position because my position is at the child study center and there is a lot of lifting and things that this surgery will affect.  It just seems like one bad news after another. But the Wishing Star could help to allow our holidays to be brighter by helping Christmas gifts that we can't afford.  It sure would be nice to have a few things for the children to open on Christmas morning.

Family #3
My family does get food stamps. i not applied for assistance anywhere else because i missed the angel tree sign ups. I am needing help with Christmas this year because i just lost my job & my husband is the only one working. The wishing star could make my holiday brighter by giving my kids a good Christmas.

I am a disabled mother of two beautiful daughters. My youngest daughter is ADHD-odd sufferer. My husband who is only 30 years young suffers from emphysema and severe asthma. Right now we survive barely on my disability check which is 363 and ssi 330. We do draw food stamps. We are classified homeless as we don't have a place of our own or pay rent anywhere  My daughters would really appreciate the help from the secret Santa project just to be able to have something under the tree. If there is anything else you need to know feel free to email me. And I was not able to sign up for either angel tree or Good Samaritan.

Family #6
Why do you need help with Christmas this year? I am unable to work due to having a high risk pregnancy and just giving birth
We are struggling to pay bills right now and barely making it. Without help this year I don't know what if any gifts or clothes my children will get for Christmas.

We need help due to i can't find a job and my husband only draws disability and i get a check for my daughter were her father is disabled

The Wishing Star can make my holidays (christmas) brighter by seeing the smiles on my kids faces when they wake up Christmas morning to open their presents and hopefuly having a Christmas dinner. And of course we always remember the reason for the season. Jesus birthday.

. My family needs help with Christmas this year because my husband has been out of work all year and I draw disability. We have found out we are having to move from our home. Which is an 1989 trailor. It is to old to move. So we are having to move in with family. We can't afford rent prices right now. We are worried we won't be able to buy Christmas for our 3 kids. My 2 boys are 9 and 6 and I have a 6 month baby girl. I am asking for help getting them gifts. And for help with Christmas dinner.

I'm a single mother and I only have income of around 600.00 a month and by the time I pay our bills and purchase our personal supplies and household supplies I just don't have any money left. My childrens father won't pay his child support so I
never get help from him.I hate to ask for any help but without the father helping I just can't make it. Our home was also damaged in the tornado last year and we just cant seem to get our lives back like they was before. it seems like the harder i try the more something else comes up. We are trying to get our home rebuilt and finished soon.

My husband is being deported, even though he is legal. He has bipolar, and he hurt me in his confusion. But they won’t understand it was because they were changing his medication and he didn’t know what he was doing. So he is in jail in Louisiana, waiting to be deported. We have no money, and our heat pump is not working. I cannot work because I am disabled but Social Security has had my application for over  1 year now and we still don’t have a court date. My son has to do without many things because we cannot afford anything. The only family I have his my mom who has cancer. My son has not even met his other family (his father's famly) because they are in Peru.

Please provide a short statement on how The Wishing Star could make your Holidays brighter ( the story ( not your info or names) will be shared via facebook, and other media). I wish my son and I could be with his father this Christmas. They have never celebrated Christmas together because his father has been held so long in jail for a crime he is not responsible for. We’ve never celebrated a family Christmas or Thanksgiving, not even our anniversary.  Our family has been ripped apart because of a medical issue that the Immigration government will not understand. They want to deport a man, who is well educated, a Dentist, always been here legally, only because he had a bad reaction to his medication while trying to get help for his condition so he could be a better father for his son. I would give up almost anything for only 2 things in the world…. To be together to go visit him, even if just for a few hours, and to get our heatpump fixed. Its been torn up for 4 months.

We have had many struggles over the past year.   I struggle with a life changing auto immune disorder and I have mini strokes.   All three of my children have their own issues, but no matter what they are kind, grateful, and are exceptional students. All A honor roll  students.  I feel they deserve to have a wonderful Christmas even if  Mommy & Daddy have  no way to provide for it. We hoped to be able to provide Christmas ourselves this year, but due to some major changes in finances and family size we can’t.

I have always believed if you work hard to take care of your family, you will be rewarded. My hope is just that. I have always worked hard to provide but
sometimes circumstances arise that are out of their control. Sometimes, people will find themselves in those situations, when they used to be the ones giving to others. The past 3 years have lead to major changes in my family. We have moved 3 times, spent all the money we had, and been denied most government benefits because we are barely over the assistance approved mark. We are lucky enough to have Tncare, which covered my surgery a few weeks ago, and will pay for my next surgery in December.  With The Wishing Star's help, my family would have a happy Christmas, and our faith in doing the right thing and in people would be restored.

Why do you need help with Christmas this year? We recently moved and it took all our extra reserves to get it accomplished so we are still trying to get back on our feet again.

Please provide a short statement on how The Wishing Star could make your Holidays brighter ( the story  ( not your info or names) will  be shared via facebook, and other media).  Without the wishing star we will not have anything for Christmas because we simply don't have the money for it. We don't even have any extra money for a dinner or gifts.  Any help we can get would be greatly appreciated, any at all.

single mom father of kids walked out on us my stamps got taken i have nobody to help us. Wishing star could make our holidays brighter by seeing to it the kids have a wonderful christmas and dinner something we havent never had would be nice to have a actual tree its always been 3ft lol but it works i guess better than none at all

I need assistance for my family due to I am the on
ly one working right now. My husband is disabled due to severe issues with his  back and legs. Our monthly bills total $800 a month.  I can barely keep enough gas to go to work.  We live pay day to pay day.  I do not want to see my family go without over the holidays.  The wishing star would make our holidays much brighter  by assisting us in that my family , especially my children, will not be with out.  I love seeing the pure joy and happiness on their face.

Why do you need help with Christmas this year?
I no longer receive unemployment from being laid off in the medical field.
We are currently living with my mother and my illing grandmother. My mother is doing all she can to support us until I can get back on my feet.

Please provide a short statement on how The Wishing Star could make your Holidays brighter ( the story ( not your info or names) will be shared via facebook, and other media)
After all I've recently been through there is nothing that I want more than to have my precious boys have a wonderful Christmas!!!!!

Just had a new baby and also had surgery had to be out of work for both.
of these and also had a a baby 7-14-2011. was also told i would never have.
children so this is a dream come true god has truly blessed me

I don't have enough money to provide Christmas for my children.  I don't want to have to explain why Santa forgot them this year.

I just started a new job after being out of work for a year, and my wife is a full-time student. I'm behind on everything and just can't afford Christmas for my three boys. I really don't know how to tell them that Santa forgot them this year.

It seems like we get shorter and shorter on money every month. We live
check to check every month. I would really love for my kids to have a
great Christmas for once. It is going to be really hard to pay bills and
buy Christmas presents too.

The Wishing Star would make this Christmas different because ever since
me and my husband separated my kids haven't really had a Christmas. My
daughter is about to turn 18 so it doesn't mean as much to her but it
means a lot to my 7 year old to be able to wake up on Christmas morning
and have presents under the tree and it's going to be hard to do that
on my own because i am just living off my child support money. It is
hard enough to buy what we need for the week with just the child
support. So having a little extra help would make this Christmas great
for my children

I am not getting help from anyone else. The reason I need help is because I am a single mom and the only income I have is mine. The wishing star could make my holiday brighter by giving my kids a good Christmas.

Why do you need help with Christmas this year?

Money is very tight.   A lot of money is used for gas to take my son to his appointments.  We are owed child support that we have not received all year and that has caused a financial burden.  No dinner is needed for our family.

The Wishing Star would make my 5 children’s holiday brighter by providing a Christmas that they would not have otherwise.  Like many others, money is extremely tight this year and I would be very appreciative of any help for them

Family # 29 is a disabled individual who take care of her parents. She just wishes for a big Christmas dinner and a warm blanket.

We need help with Christmas this year for our kids. It has been a ruff year and we are on a fixed income of SSI  a month. I have a disabled daughter and my husband is unable to work. He got hurt and we did not have work-mans comp or insurance. I am pregnant with a baby boy on the way. Our electric bill has been outrageous and we can- not afford propane. We have a propane heater and tank but we can- not afford the high electric bill and propane. When we use propane our electric bill goes down a lot. We just do not have enuff to get propane. As for our girls they are not picky. They love animals of all kinds and plays video games. Our girls are creative too. They like making things, bracelets, jewelry, to art.

why do i need help?
i have been out of work since sept. on fmla due to pregnancy. i am not recieving any wages while i am out. i had my son on sept. 17th and 2 days later my fiance had to have emergency surgery due to appendicitis. that was the best and worst week of our lives. i was running back and forth between floors checking in on baby and him. i felt so bad that i couldnt be there for him because i was a patient myself. on the same day i had the baby my dad had found out from his heart dr. that he needed to have a heart catherazation done which was sceduled for the following week. during his procedure they told us that he needed to have open heart surgery in order to fix the problem. they wanted to do it the following day but he decided he wanted to come home because he was scared he wouldnt come thru and be able to see his newest grandson grow up. we all tried to talk him in to having it done but it took his regular dr telling him that he could fall over dead at anytime with a heart attack since he had 3 blockages that were 99 percent blocked. we honestly didnt know how he was still up and going. he scheduled surgery for oct.5th and underwent the triple bypass. he was really scared to have it done considering last year in oct. he had to have surgery to remove 20 percent of left lung removed from lung cancer and completed his chemo treatments in march of this year. since all of this has happened i have had to delay going back to work since my little family lives with my parents. my dad was going to watch the baby while we were at work but is unable to do so now. i have been taking care of my dad taking him to his dr. appointments as well caring for a new baby and all of his appointments as well. my fiance went back to work a couple of weeks after his surgery and he is the only source of income right now. he is only part time and is doing the best that he can but we got behind on everything while he was out of work so trying to catch the bills up and buying diapers and all the things the baby has to have we have no extra money for christmas gifts. we dont like asking for help we have always been able to manage in the past to give the kids a good christmas but this year isnt looking good at all. we have prayed and prayed about all of this and i was told about this website so maybe this is our answer to our prayers.

the wishing star could make the holiday brighter knowing that there is still some good people in the world that is willing to help strangers out in their time of need and knowing my kids would wake up on christmas morning with a smile on their face not sad and disappointed. it breaks our heart to think that there might not be anything under the tree this year for them

Im on a fixed income and after I pay our bills and buy what we need for household and hygenine I just dont have any money left.

Please provide a short statement on how The Wishing Star could make your Holidays brighter ( the story  ( not your info or names) will  be shared via facebook, and other media). Im on a fixed income of SSI  that comes from my  childrens deceased father. I was working but but I have 2 children with medical issues so im not able to work and take them to the doctor. so without ur help my kids probably wont be able to have a christmas.

it would be great to see my brother and son smile for Christmas gifts. this is my sons first christmas. And its the first Christmas my brother and i got to spend time to together. We have been seperated since 2003 which is when our father passed away.

Why do you need help with Christmas this year? With the economy being low, my husband who works as a roofer has had much less work than normal.  We have 3 small children and I spend all day taking care of them.  We live in a home with little in the way of extras just to have enough to get by every month.  Without your help, our sweet babies may see an empty tree and stockings on Christmas morning.

Please provide a short statement on how The Wishing Star could make your Holidays brighter ( the story  ( not your info or names) will  be shared via facebook, and other media). The Wishing Star is basically the only way our 3 small children are going to get anything this year.  It breaks my heart to think that they will wake up on Christmas morning expecting to see that Santa came and see nothing.  Any help for us would be greatly appreciated.

Why do you need help with Christmas this year? I am 7 and half months pregnant with my third blessing trying to earn a living at subway. My husband is disabled trying to start his disability. We have two other boys. My check goes straight to the bills with barely enough for gas to get me back to work the next week.

We are about to lose our home. And I don’t want my son to suffer without a Christmas.

Family #38
We have a 5 year old boy and a 8 month old boy. I recently lost my job and our foodstamps. We are spending our rent money on food. Jameson, our oldest son's birthday is 2 weeks before christmas and I have no idea how I'm going to be able to do anything for either of our boys for christmas or for Jameson's birthday

Why do you need help with Christmas this year?  Yes please

we dont have enough money this year. Everything is getting to be to high. bills are going up

Family #42
Our family needs help for Christmas because we are struggling to pay bills like many others and are behind. We have been having to use one electric heater so far cause the best we can do for now. Having 6 kids isn't easy but we are blessed to have each of them. My children keep asking me what Santa’s going to bring them and I have no answer. We have tried to receive assistance but had no luck. We would be extremely grateful if the wishing star could help my kids receive the Christmas they dream about.

2012 has been a rough year financially for us. We have dealt with a lot of medical issues including myself breaking my knee in August. I pray 2013 is a better year for us. Your help will be tremendously appreciated.

The Wishing Star would make our Holiday brighter by helping with gifts for our children. There is nothing like seeing their eyes light up on Christmas morning, and I would be devastated if I didn't have enough to provide to make that moment magical.

How do I adopt a family? What all does that require?

Our suggestion when adopting a family is to provide a meal, a gift and outfit for each child, a gift for the family or parents, a blessing bag. The Only MUST do's are the meal and gifts for children of the family. I do ask if you adopt a single parent family, that you place something in the bag for the parent. They are often forgotten on Holidays.  Extras you can do is stocking stuffers, or stocking stuffed with items. ( I always stuff personal hygiene in stockings for parents),coats, shoes, socks, underwear.  I tell people when choosing items for the meal, think about what you like to eat on Christmas Day.  We try to divide donations up to make sure each family gets a Blessing bag.

Here are ideas for the Meal:
Ham or Turkeys, or gift cards for such

Canned Veggies ( green beans, corn, carrots, yams, potatoes)

Canned Fruit ( pineapple,peaches, oranges,pumpkin)

Mayo, Peanut butter, jelly, spicy mustard

Flour, sugar, brown sugar, carnation milk, pie fillings, cake mixes, icings, etc.

small bags of walnuts or pecans

Bisquick or other instant bread mixes, jiffy pie crust mix or biscuit mix

Instant Mac N Cheese, potatoes, stove top, rice

boxes of Hot chocolate or apple cidar mix

Large Family Tea bags

Sugar Cookie Mix with holiday cookie cutters

Gingerbread house kit

Christmas Candy ( candy canes, chocolate santas)

Here are ideas for Blessing Bags:

Soap,body wash,lotion
Deodorant,razors,shaving cream,
feminine Hygiene items
toothpaste,toothbrush,mouthwash,floss ( adult and kid)
shampoo, conditioner, hair products
laundry detergent, dish detergent, toilet paper, paper towels
cleaning supplies, bleach
new hair brushes, combs
adult socks
candy canes
